Dr. Linda Rosenbury was appointed superintendent of the Port Townsend School District on July 1, 2021. She came to Washington State as a Doctoral Resident in Highline Public Schools. Previously, she worked in New York City as a teacher and middle school principal. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University, a Master of Education from Mercy College, and a Doctorate of Education Leadership from Harvard University. She was drawn to the Port Townsend School District because of the place-based learning approach, locally-sourced meals, and dedication to programs in the arts, athletics, and more.
In her first year as superintendent, Dr. Linda engaged community members, staff, students, and families in a refresh of the district’s strategic plan. Vision 2027 deepens the district’s place-based learning approach and focus on wellness through an equity lens. In the 2022-23 school year, Dr. Linda is working with staff, students, families, and community members to ensure that each and every student is known, supported, and engaged and graduates with the skills to thrive in the world and change it for the better.
Celebrations:
Adopted a New Equity Policy: Students, community members, and staff worked together to define the district’s work towards equity for all students. Their efforts led to the new position of Wellness Director and the establishment of a Race, Equity, & Identity Policy.
Increased Student Voice: Two student representatives were appointed to the school board. Senior Emilia Ramsey and junior Maggie Emery were selected from the newly-formed Superintendent’s Advisory Council to represent their peers.
Rebuilt Community: Restored the annual tradition of the salmon lunch with staff and community partners. Collaborated with the Parent-Teacher Association and the Production Alliance to host a PT Schools Party attended by over 500 staff, families, and community members.
Connected Students to Careers: Partnered with Skillmation to connect East Jefferson County high schoolers and businesses at the Jobs & Trades Fair.
Expanded our Commitment to Wellness: Created a new role of Director of Wellness to promote a sense of belonging among all students. Established a production garden to grow vegetables for our cafeterias and promote healthy eating.
