Community Members Invited to Nominate Candidates for At-Large Director Position

Port Townsend Schools is announcing an opening on its Board of Directors following the retirement of At-Large Director Nathanael O'Hara, whose final meeting will be July 16, 2026.

Nathanael served the Port Townsend Schools community for twelve years as a steadfast advocate for students, staff, and families. Throughout his tenure, he played an instrumental role on the Finance Committee, helping ensure responsible and transparent stewardship of district resources. He was a key voice in both the 2016 and 2026 school construction bond initiatives, helping bring critical facility improvements for elementary, high school, and OCEAN students. He supported and championed the district's place-based learning programs and was a leader in governing the district through the COVID pandemic and recovery. Through his advocacy with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), he championed athletic excellence and worked to bring Port Townsend's student-athletes a strong voice. His thoughtful leadership and genuine commitment to public education have shaped PT Schools in ways that will endure long after his tenure.

In reflecting on his time with the board, O'Hara shared:

"It has been an honor to serve our community in this capacity over the past 12 years. I have tremendous respect and appreciation for the teachers, support staff, administrators, coaches, and volunteers who work together each day to create an enriching educational experience for our students. Meaningful progress is often incremental, and lasting cultural change takes time. I am proud of the work we have accomplished together and grateful for the dedication, collaboration, and commitment that have helped move our district forward. Guided by our mission that every student will be known, supported, and engaged and graduate with the skills to thrive in the world and change it for the better, I believe we are on course to support our students in creating bright and successful futures."

Superintendent Dr. Linda Rosenbury echoed that sentiment: "Nathanael has been an extraordinary board member and a true champion for our students and community. His steady leadership, thoughtful questions, and deep commitment to public education have made PT Schools stronger. We are grateful for his twelve years of service and wish him all the best in this next chapter."

The board and district extend their deepest gratitude to Nathanael for everything he has given to this community over the past twelve years.
