Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying

What is harassment, intimidation, and bullying?
● Harassment, intimidation, or bullying means any intentional electronic, written,
verbal, or physical act that:
○ Physically harms a student or damages the student’s property;
○ Interferes with a student’s education;
○ Creates an intimidating or threatening educational environment;
○ Substantially disrupts the orderly operation of the school or school-related
activity.
Any school staff members who observe, overhear, or otherwise witness
harassment, intimidation, or bullying or to whom such actions have been reported
must take prompt and appropriate action to stop the harassment and prevent its
recurrence.
Any student or students who believe they have been the target of unresolved,
severe, or persistent harassment, intimidation, or bullying, or any other person in
the school community who observes or receives notice that a student has or may
have been the target of unresolved, severe, or persistent harassment,
intimidation, or bullying may report incidents verbally or in writing to any staff
member.
● Some actions may cause harm but if they are not intentional, they do not qualify
as harassment, intimidation, or bullying. While these instances do not fall under
the procedure, we still listen and take steps to promote wellness. This could
include educating the author of harm and letting them know that if the behavior
continues, it will be interpreted as intentional and therefore fall under this
procedure.
● There are times when the impact of a behavior does not amount to harassment,
bullying, or intimidation but it still contributes to conflict and decreases wellness
in the community and must be addressed.
Please review the following policy regarding harassment, intimidation, and
bullying.
