Levy Information

On February 11th, 2025, residents in the Port Townsend School District will have a chance to vote on two school levies in the special election.

These are renewal levies. That means they will replace our current levies, which run out at the end of 2025. These school levies help us fill the gaps in funding for things not fully funded by the State.

The two proposed levy measures are:

1. EP&O Levy- Our proposed Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy will support students by helping fund critical programs like:

-Art/Library/Theatre

-Band/Orchestra/Music

-Athletics

-Maritime/Placed-Based Learning

-Multi Language Learners and Pre-K/TTK

2. Capital Levy- Our proposed Capital Levy will support our students by helping fund safety, technology and facilities upgrades like:

-Improving disability access

-Replacing old technology -Determining necessary seismic upgrades

-Removal of the decommissioned Lincoln Building on the PTHS campus

See the flier below for the current and projected tax rates for the levies. Because these are renewal levies, the property tax rate is predicted to stay about the same.

As a reminder, a levy is different from a bond. Levies are short-term and help fund programs and services that the State does not fully fund. Bonds fund larger capital projects like building or modernizing a school. That’s why some say “Levies are for Learning and Bonds are for Building.” For more information on the differences, you can visit ESD 112’s helpful website: Bonds and Levies: The Seeds of School Funding.

If you've been hearing about the facilities upgrades process for the Port Townsend High School and OCEAN K-12 Alternative School, that is a separate exciting project which may turn into a bond funded project in the future. You can learn more about that project here.
