Port Townsend School District has begun a process to evaluate the buildings and facilities at Port Townsend High School and OCEAN School with an eye towards improving campus safety, accessibility (ADA), seismic upgrades and the student educational experience.
Port Townsend High School has buildings nearly 100 years old and OCEAN K-12 Alternative School has outgrown their current location so the time has come to look at what improvements would help both schools meet their current and future needs.
Port Townsend School Board voted to hire an architecture firm to perform physical and functional assessments of PTHS and OCEAN School and work with the School District’s Long Range Planning Committee to compile information and recommendations for much needed improvements. To aid in the process, the District invited teachers, staff, students, families and community members to join design advisory committees. These committees work closely with the architecture firm and their input informs concepts that will be presented to the School Board in spring 2025.
Multiple sources of funding are being explored including State and Federal grants and a possible bond in 2026.
