From the Superintendent:                                                                   David Engle, Superintendent

Greetings!  I am thrilled to be welcoming you to the 2012-13 school year as Port Townsend's new superintendent of schools.  I join this community as a newcomer to the Olympic Peninsula.  However, I am a longtime resident of the Puget Sound region.  As a native of Tacoma, I have many strong connections with our salt water realm, both in terms of the unique environment it represents and the human heritage along its serpentine shores.  We are fortunte to reside, work and learn in such a magnificent setting!  Over the course of the 2012-13 school year, I will look forward to learning more about my students, their families and the community they represent.  I have been encouraged by the principals, teachers, support staff and many community members I've met in my visits to the district prior to taking up my official duties here.  I have been impressed by the level of caring and commitment this community provides its young people.

Port Townsend cares a great deal about the quality of life available for all of its residents.  This sense of community is everywhere apparent.  Certainly, the quality of its school system is one of its highest priorities.  It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I approach my new professional challenge here.  While we have been sharing some very challenging times across the State of Washington, it is my pledge that we as a district will continue to plan for a sustainable, promising future for all of our students.

I wish you a very productive and satisfying school year.  I look forward to working for this community's dynamic and committed School Board as they chart the future course of the Port Townsend School District's continuing success.

Sincerely,

David Engle
