Directors and Districts

School Board

As a Port Townsend School District voter, you elect five school board directors to:
  • Hire and evaluate superintendents
  • Set policies that set standards and a framework for governing the district
  • Reviews progress on district goals
  • Adopt a budget every year
  • Approve textbooks and other instructional materials
  • Represent you and advocate for the school district

School board members are elected to four-year terms. Three board members are elected based on geographic areas, and two are elected to at-large positions. Maps of the current director districts and a narrative description of the district boundaries are available to download on the menu.

Meetings

Directors normally meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Most meetings are held at the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine Street. We welcome you to join us and share your comments at our regular board meetings.

The first meeting is a study session designed to learn about and discuss topics in depth. The third Thursday meeting is the regular business meeting. The board may also appoint members to committees, which meet separately. Directors may also hold occasional special meetings.

The district publishes agendas no less than 24 hours prior to each meeting. You can find agendas and minutes from past meetings on our Board Page.
