The 4A’s For Success at Blue Heron: Academics, Attendance, Attitude and Activities

Dear Students and Parents:

Reaches Out is a newsletter that is mailed directly to your mailbox and also posted on our website. The Reaches Out contains limited information with further information available at the Blue Heron Website-www.ptschools.org/BlueHeron. I encourage you to visit the website over the summer for periodic school updates.

Blue Heron wrapped up the 2009-10 school year on June 18. It is amazing to think that one year ago we didn’t even have the 4th / 5th and OPEPO classrooms on the Blue Heron campus, as they arrived in mid August 2009. I was extremely pleased with the school year and how staff, students, and parents came together, despite many challenges in closing our Mountain View Elementary School. I would like to thank everyone for their support and contributions.

The 2010-11 school year will bring new relationships and further opportunities to learn. Coming up on August 26, 2010, we have something new planned for students and parents. We will be hosting Back To School Days from 7 am – 6 pm, beginning August 26 and continuing through September 2. During that time parents will be able to stop by the school at their convenience and pick up their student’s schedule; find out their classroom teacher; sign for the student/parent planner and other important papers; pay fees; sign for their online username and password; and declare their child’s ethnicity as required by the State of Washington. Parents, beat the rush and stop by and see us between 7 am and 6 pm at your convenience - we are here to assist you! Of course, we will be celebrating on Tuesday, August 31 with our annual Back To School Celebration and free BBQ for our Blue Heron families. Students and parents will be able to visit classrooms and say hi to their teachers and reconnect with friends.

Parents, please see below for school supply information. In preparation for paying school fees (August 26 - September 2), please know that all students in grades 4-8 will pay $7 for a school planner and a $10 materials fee for a total of $17.  In addition, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders must purchase a PE uniform for $18.  Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 who participate in after school activities like sports, drama, yearbook and ASB, must purchase an ASB card for $25. Students participating on a school sports team must pay $40 per sport.  Blue Heron offers cross-country, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling and track for 7th and 8th graders only. Any student choosing to purchase a yearbook will need to pay $35.  OPEPO students will pay a flat fee of $30 to cover materials and supplies. Finally, students who play an instrument and do not own one may rent a school instrument for a fee of $50.                                                                              Have a great summer!

Principal Mark Decker
