"Discover the Power of Learning" Port Townsend is a great place to live, work, raise a family and enjoy numerous recreational activities. The community is very supportive of the Port Townsend School District providing enriching activities through Centrum, the Northwest Maritime Center and Wooden Boat Foundation, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the YMCA, Jefferson County Parks and Recreation, PTA, the Port Townsend Education Foundation, and various other youth oriented activities and clubs. The 2009-10 school year brings many changes including the reconfiguration of our schools into three campuses. Grant Street will serve students PreK-3 with Blue Heron serving students in grade 4-8 and OPEPO. The high school will serve students in grades 9-12 along with the Mar Vista and secondary ICE alternative programs. The district employs a total of 91.15 FTE certificated staff and 59.5 FTE classified staff. The annual operating budget is just over $14 million. In February of 2007, the voters passed a four-year continuation of the Maintenance & Operations Levy. This replacement levy will be voted on in the spring of 2011 for continuation of services. The district is working on a facilities plan that will provide a long-range guide for the district facilities and related budgeting needs. Once the school board approves the plan, it will be posted on the web site and reviewed annually. The district is discussing running a capital projects levy or bond to meet the facility needs of the district. |
