I've been teaching at the secondary level for more than ten years and have taught all grades 8-12 and more types of classes than I can remember. In the course of my career, I have been fortunate to teach in American schools around the world. My wife and I spent four years teaching at the American International School of Guangzhou in southern China. Before that, we spent two years teaching at Lincoln Community School in Accra, Ghana. I've also spent many years in variety of public and private schools here in the U.S from the large 2000+ to the small 40+, and a variety of teaching environments from small seminars and team-teaching, to AP and IB courses.
As a social studies teacher, my international experience allows me to lend students first-person insight and guidance in navigating the global issues and relationships that are essential for all people in the world today to understand. Ultimately, I believe that more than knowledge, the critical thinking & communication skills I try to help students hone in my classroom are the essential elements of 21st-century education. Hopefully, students leave my classroom ready to engage in the world, change it, and make it a better place for us all.
